Ikawa
季膳 いかわ
Ikawa, a Japanese kappo restaurant in Nishi-Ogu, Arakawa Ward, serves fresh sashimi and seasonal grilled seafood alongside attentive cooking from an approachable chef. Dinner reservations are recommended.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Set along the historic Kyu-Odai-dori street in Nishi-Ogu, Arakawa Ward, Ikawa hangs out its noren curtain to offer neatly composed Japanese cuisine centered on seasonal produce. Bringing experience honed in Ginza kappo dining, the chef tailors each dish attentively with carefully chosen seasonal ingredients while keeping the preferences of diners in mind.
Seafood dishes spotlighting fresh catches and thorough preparation are an immediate highlight. An assorted sashimi platter presents an array of fish, while options like salt-grilled yellowtail, Pacific saury, and salt-grilled milt (shirako) are grilled slowly and aromatically to draw out natural savory flavors. The menu flows easily with drink, featuring everything from small side dishes to substantial mains, including well-seasoned Saikyo miso-marinated silver cod, seasonal simmered dishes, and light, crisp tempura. Selected regional sake and beer provide easy pairings for a relaxed evening.
The interior features counter seating with a close view of the chef’s deft kitchen craft, as well as sunken-kotatsu tatami seating in the back for more relaxed lounging. The chef’s warm, approachable hospitality makes the restaurant suited to solo diners as well as casual dinners with friends or family. Because the dining room is enjoyed primarily in the evening, booking ahead for dinner is recommended.
